Like so many of you, I wear many hats and have many interests. I’m Kristie Sloan and would love to have you join in as we explore our creativity. As an experienced artist and crafter, it would be my pleasure to guide you in creating your own Artful Adventures!
My Mission
My mission is to help women relax and recharge, offering stress-free creative time through adventures in paper crafting, mixed media, and sometimes a bit of fun painting, in a friendly, accepting community. Taking time to enjoy creative time regularly can be restful, fulfilling and often therapeutic! Pablo Picaso so wonderfully stated, “Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
My Story
I have enjoyed arts and crafts since I was old enough to hold a crayon. As a kid, I got more excited about an Easter basket brimming with colorful paper and watercolor pencils than a candy-filled basket. At nine, I learned to sew, and by fourteen, I made most of my clothes. From needle crafts to stained glass work, I never met a craft I didn’t like.
I enjoyed experimenting and learning, and turned art into adventures. I collected beer cans from along the rural country road where I grew up in Colorado to make miniature furniture, which fed my addiction to miniatures, later turning into creating miniature oil paintings. One of my favorite artful adventures was learning to decorate cakes, which allowed me to make my wedding cake. Another adventure was during the first holiday season we were away from home while my husband was in the Navy. To pinch pennies, I created all our Christmas tree ornaments from the most basic supplies.
Currently, living in the Forth Worth, Texas area, with the ‘help’ of my little Maltese, Lucy, I focus on paper crafting (scrapbooking, card making, mini-albums, mixed media) and a bit of painting. I still love to learn, experiment, and take artful adventures. MANY years of teaching crafts to both children and adults, including my three daughters and three grandchildren, I have learned how to break down crafty techniques into clear, easy steps.
