Sometimes a small project is the perfect creative win! For this Mini Monday project, I made a little hinged mini album using leftover patterned paper and a simple folded spine technique.
This mini album is a great way to use 12×12 paper scraps, 4×6 pieces, or even a 6×6 paper pad. Once the hinge spine is built, the pages flip easily and there is a little bit of built-in space between them, making it fun for photos, journaling, pockets, small scenes, or dimensional embellishments.
Finished Album Size
For the version shown in the video:
Album pages: 4″ x 6″
Hinge/spine base: 4″ tall x 11 1/4″ wide
Spine cover: 4″ tall x 2 3/4″ wide
The finished album has six double-page sections, plus the inside covers, giving you about 14 surfaces to decorate.
Hinge Base Score Marks
Cut your hinge base to:
4″ x 11 1/4″
Score along the 11 1/4″ side at:
1 3/4″
2″
2 1/2″
3″
3 1/4″
3 3/4″
4 1/4″
4 1/2″
5″
5 1/2″
5 3/4″
6 1/2″
6 3/4″
7″
7 1/2″
8″
8 1/4″
8 1/2″
9″
9 1/4″
After scoring, fold on all the score lines. The wider 1/2″ sections are glued together to create the page hinges, while the 1/4″ sections remain between the hinges to give the album a little room to expand.
Spine Cover
Cut your spine cover to:
4″ x 2 3/4″
Score along the 2 3/4″ side at:
1/2″
2 1/4″
This piece wraps around the outside of the spine and helps cover the folded hinge construction while giving the mini album a cleaner, sturdier finish.
How the Album Comes Together
Start by folding the hinge base back and forth along all the score lines. The goal is to create alternating mountain and valley folds.
Next, glue each pair of 1/2″ sections together. These become the tabs where your album pages attach. I like using a little double-sided tape to help things grab quickly, along with liquid glue for a stronger hold.
Once the hinge spine is built, attach your 4″ x 6″ pages to each hinge tab. I glued pages on both sides of each hinge so the tabs are hidden inside the finished pages. This also gives the pages more strength.
After the pages are attached, add the spine cover to the outside. Press it well into place so the spine stays neat and flat.
Decorating Ideas
Once your mini album is assembled, the real fun begins—decorating!
This style of hinged mini album is incredibly versatile. You can keep things simple or build out more detailed pages depending on your mood, your supplies, or how much time you have.
Some ideas for using your mini album:
- Add photos for a small memory book
- Use it as a mini junk journal
- Create themed pages with scrapbook paper collections
- Add pockets, tuck spots, or tags
- Use it for watercolor or sketch practice
- Turn it into happy mail or a handmade gift
Because the hinge creates a little space between the pages, you can even add some dimensional elements without everything getting too bulky.

Bringing the Pages to Life
For this page, I used elements from my current Village Creative Series printable collection to create a soft, story-like scene.
By placing the flower shop toward the back and adding the figure slightly forward, it creates a sense of depth and movement—even though everything is flat on the page. It gives the feeling that she’s walking toward the shop, which makes the page feel more alive.
The word strips were cut apart and arranged in sections rather than used as one long strip. This makes them easier to fit into the space and adds a little more visual interest.
I also added a few small dimensional details for texture. Even tiny touches can make a big difference and help guide the eye across the page.
One of my favorite things about this kind of project is that you don’t have to worry about perfect scale or exact placement. Just play with positioning and layering until it feels right.
