If you’ve ever wanted to try watercoloring but felt a little intimidated by traditional paints, this is such a fun and approachable way to get started. In this project, I’m using markers to create a soft watercolor look while building a whimsical fairy garden teacup scene.
This video is slightly edited from a livestream, so you’ll see the real process—figuring things out, making adjustments along the way, and just enjoying the creative journey.
Because that’s really what this is all about… an artful adventure. I’m not an expert, and I don’t try to be. I simply love exploring techniques, playing with supplies, and seeing where the creativity leads.

Why Try Watercolor with Markers?
This technique is perfect if you want the look of watercolor without needing a full set of paints. Markers are easy to control, blend beautifully with a little water, and are a great option for paper crafters who already have them on hand.
You can use this approach for card fronts, journal pages, folios, and all kinds of paper crafting projects.
A Note on Creativity
One of my favorite parts of creating like this is embracing the imperfections. Sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned, and that’s okay. In fact, those moments are often where the best ideas come from.
If you’re trying something new, give yourself permission to play, experiment, and enjoy the process.
