Storage Ideas for Ephemera, Ribbons, and Craft Supplies

Have you ever saved a special label, ticket, ribbon, lace trim, or piece of ephemera because you just knew you would use it someday—only to discover later that you couldn’t find it when you needed it?

For my first presentation in the inaugural Evidence of Creativity event, I decided to tackle a challenge that many paper crafters know all too well: organizing the creative evidence we collect along the way.

Rather than creating a traditional paper crafting project, this session became a conversation about practical storage ideas for the supplies that tend to accumulate in our craft rooms. From tiny embellishments and paper scraps to ribbons, lace, and printable elements, I shared several methods I’ve used to keep creative treasures visible, accessible, and ready for future projects.

One of the storage solutions we explored was using photo mount pages to organize flat ephemera. These pages make it easy to see what you have while keeping small pieces protected and grouped together. I also demonstrated how simple magazine file holders can become an inexpensive filing system when paired with handmade divider tabs.

We also talked about organizing supplies in ways that match how you create. Some crafters prefer sorting by category, while others organize by color, theme, or project. The best system is the one that helps you quickly find the supplies you need when inspiration strikes.

Another favorite storage method involved wrapping ribbons and lace trims around comic book boards. This simple technique reduces bulk, keeps trims neat, and makes it much easier to browse through a collection of coordinating materials.

Perhaps the most important takeaway from the discussion was that organization doesn’t have to be perfect to be helpful. Small improvements can make a big difference when it comes to using the supplies you already own.

If you’re looking for ideas to organize ephemera, ribbons, embellishments, printable projects, or other creative supplies, I hope you’ll find a few useful tips in this video.
