Sometimes the best project ideas start with a single special item. For this Vintage Wednesday project, that item was an authentic vintage calling card shared by a friend.
At first, I thought about using the card on the cover of my project. However, I quickly decided I wanted to preserve it instead. So, I created a small keepsake folder with a lace pocket where the original card could be safely tucked away while still becoming part of the design.
I started with a simple manila folder and trimmed it down to size. Next, I rounded the corners and added a lace pocket inside the cover. That pocket became the perfect place to hold the vintage calling card along with several other small cards.
As the project developed, a friendship theme began to emerge. Therefore, I designed a collection of decorative calling cards featuring words such as Kindness, Laughter, Support, Understanding, Encouragement, Connection, Gratitude, Memories, Joy, and Caring.
Under each card, I tucked a hidden sentiment. As a result, the project became interactive as well as decorative. Lifting each card reveals a message celebrating friendship, encouragement, and connection.
One of my favorite things about this project is its versatility. For example, you could use these cards in friendship journals, junk journals, mini folios, happy mail, scrapbook layouts, or memory-keeping projects.
Meanwhile, our conversation during the live wandered through all sorts of vintage topics. We talked about authentic calling cards, treasured ephemera, old-fashioned neighborly traditions, and the stories hidden inside vintage paper treasures. After all, half the fun of vintage items is wondering about the people who once owned them.
